Introduction to diy-investors.ai
✨ Hi! I’m delighted to welcome you to DIY-Investors.ai, a website all of you that believe a marriage between AI and Investing is indeed a match made in digital heaven. I share that vision and am dedicating a lot of my time to experimenting and exploring how we can make this a reality. I’m sharing the results of my ‘adventures’ with the members of diy-investors.com, which I founded in 2010. However, I decided late last year to split the ‘How To’ part of this activity into a separate website… hence this site that you’re viewing now.
✨ My name is Mick Pavey and I’m a (retired?) business owner/entrepreneur, Chartered Surveyor, author, educator and artist, living in Worcestershire (UK).
✨ I’ve always been fascinated by the practical ‘real life’ uses of computers, ever since I first started using a very early ‘Apple PC’ in the late 1970’s, during my farming career in Hampshire.
✨ I subsequently explored this further, when completing a degree between 1983 and 1986. My dissertation involved creating an innovative application that linked an AO sized ‘digitiser’ to read architects plans, converting the data into a cost modelling application, for use by Quantity Surveyors in the Construction Industry. This turned out to be a ‘prize winning’ piece of work and encouraged me to look for further practical applications during my career in the construction industry.
✨ In the mid 1980’s, I became interested in investing and bought my very first shares, in Amstrad (Entrepreneur Alan Sugar’s company). This seemed quite appropriate as my father had kindly just bought me one of Amstrad’s PC’s – the CPC 464. That’s the original one, a cassette tape drive for storage and 64KB of RAM… yes I did mean 64 kilobytes!
✨ To cut a long story short, I’ve been a keen ‘diy-investor’ ever since and went on to found diy-investors.com in 2011. I had realised that there were many people who wanted to control their own financial destiny, using the stock market as (at least) part of their plan. I’ve been successfully investing ever since… doing so full-time since November 2012. I’ve held many ‘Boot Camps’ & training events since then, sharing my knowledge with and (equally) learning from others.
✨ My book ‘Picking Winning Shares’ (ISBN: 978-0-9564899-0-6) was published in 2011. It’s available on Amazon HERE!, or can be ordered through your local bookshop.
✨ With the unfolding story and rapid rise of AI, it seems to me that there is a large gulf between the ‘boffins’ of the AI industry and the ranks of hard working; professionals, students and general public who should be (in my mind) able to benefit from AI. My hope and wish for this channel is that we can help to bridge this gap and enthuse people to experiment with practical applications in their own diy-investing. Who knows, it may spark some ‘ah ha’ moments that could also spill over into their main careers and/or hobbies.
